Furry Friends

Traveling with pets can sometimes be a challenge. Manistee County welcomes your furry companions, and offers many opportunities to enjoy a family vacation with the family pet. Many of our parks and beaches are pet friendly, as are several of our lodging facilities. Pets are welcome pretty much every where you go within the county as long as 1) they are leashed 2) owners carry supplies to clean up after them responsibly and 3) there isn't a sign posted that says pets are NOT allowed.

Following is a list of lodging facilities, campgrounds and cabins, and parks and beaches that we know today are pet friendly. Please see Hotels/Motels, Cabins/Campgrounds, and Bed & Breakfast members for contact information.

You'll find a nice, fenced in area called the Dog Park in Manistee at the end of First Street, at First Street Beach.

Dogs are not allowed on the actual beach at First Street, but you can take them to play in the water on the other side of the river at the North Beach Access, where the water tower is, at the end of Washington St.
Dickson Township Park in Brethren is pet friendly, as is Hopkins Park in Bear Lake, and North Point Beach at Portage Point in Onekama. There may be several others; check with us at the Visitors Center upon your arrival.
