Spend a day in the North Coast Region
Follow the M22 Pure Michigan Scenic By-way to the North Coast Region. Home to scenic vistas, farm markets, sandy beaches, world-class golf, and plenty of trails to wander, this region is the perfect destination for those seeking fun and sun in the great outdoors.

Power up at Bowen’s Creek
Begin your day in the village of Arcadia where you will find Bowen’s Creek, and outdoor cafe serving freshly brewed, expertly crafted, hot and cold coffee and tea drinks, unique flavor combinations in hand-crafted crepes, and scratch-made beignets.

Walk the Boardwalk
Right next door to Bowen’s Creek is the trailhead to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy Arcadia Marsh Nature Preserve, a ¾ mile boardwalk spanning 313-acres of restored marshland. This boardwalk trail features signage informing visitors of the plant, fish, and bird species that make the marsh their home. Observation decks provide access for fishing, photography, and bird watching. It is the perfect place for a morning stroll, sipping your coffee, and taking in the serene landscape.

Make the Climb
Just north of town you’ll find one of the most popular destinations in the North Coast Region, the Arcadia Scenic Overlook. Enjoy the majestic view from the observation deck just off of the parking lot or climb 120 steps to the highest viewpoint overlooking the Lake Michigan. The climb is worth the challenge to reach one of the most iconic photo spots in Michigan.

Take to the Trails
Just a bit further north, is Arcadia Dunes at the C.S. Mott Nature Preserve. Here hikers of all abilities will find varied length trails through the woods to scenic spots high above the lakeshore. The Old Baldy boardwalk trail is a popular trail for people of all ages to enjoy a micro-adventure along well-marked trails. This is a universally accessible ½-mile trail that leads to a platform offering stunning views of Lake Michigan.

Lunch at Ketch 22
Back into Arcadia, Ketch 22 Kafe welcomes explorers of the region to fuel up with regionally inspired, made-to-order sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups and more. Their menu is filled with items created with a fresh twist on popular American cuisine. Place your order and then relax on the outdoor patio or under the tent with scenic views of the marsh.

Choose Your Adventure
Your afternoon in the North Coast region offers plenty of options for more exploration. This region is home to some of the best golf in Michigan. Play the bucket list courses of Arcadia Bluffs or check out the newly renovated Wolf River Golf Park in Bear Lake. Either choice will deliver a terrific northern Michigan golf experience to remember. Golfing not your thing? Maybe it’s time for a bit of retail therapy instead. You are in luck, because Onekama and Bear Lake both have unique boutiques featuring locally curated items to commemorate your trip.

Casual or Fine Dining?
Whether you are looking for a casual bite to eat or a more elevated dining experience, the North Coast Region delivers. Grill 44 in Bear Lake is a popular destination with the locals for pizza, burgers, or a fish fry. Their menu has something for all members of the family. For a completely different dining experience, try The Glenwood in Onekama. Since 1994, this well-loved restaurant has been a favorite of both locals and visitors that rave about their exceptional service, distinctive cuisine and, of course, the delictable dessert tray. This casual, but elegant dining spot will quickly become one of your favorites!

Cocktails at Blue Slipper
Finish your evening with a nightcap at The Blue Slipper Tavern in Onekama. Established in the 1880s, this friendly neighborhood tavern is popular with the locals as a great place to meet up with friends, enjoy a beverage, and maybe even enjoy some live music.

Bluffs Piper
As the sun begins to set over the Lake Michigan landscape, those who are in the know head to Arcadia Bluffs for a twilight experience that cannot be rivaled. Weekend evenings throughout the summer season, Arcadia Bluffs hosts a Scottish bagpiper, in full regalia, play a hauntingly beautiful rendition of “Amazing Grace”. Grab a cocktail in the bar, head out to the row of Adirondack chairs lining the course edge, and prepare to be awestruck! The perfect end to your day exploring the North Coast Region.
