Paddle the River

Start your morning by launching your watercraft on the Betsie River. Our region is known for miles of pristine natural streams and rivers, and the Betsie is no exception. Lunch on a Farmstead

For lunch we recommend one of the most unique dining destinations in our county. The Iron Fish Distillery, located on a reclaimed 1890’s farmstead in Thompsonville, is Michigan’s first working farm, growing, and sourcing local grain to distill a full line of small-batch craft spirits. This serene countryside setting is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy award-winning spirits and wood-fired oven cuisine.

Our region is home to sprawling agricultural land growing a wide variety of seasonal produce, often featuring locally made goods, to provide you with an authentic experience of the flavors of our county set among the stunning scenery.

Kaleva Bottle House

Step Back in Time

Next to the quaint village of Kaleva, a small-town rich with Finnish culture. Your first stop is the Bottle House Museum. Built in 1941, this unique home was constructed by John Makinen using 60,000 glass bottles. Designed with artistic placement, Mr. Makinen used chipped of flawed bottles from the pop bottling factory he owned. This museum houses faithfully inventoried, preserved and displayed historic items representative of the region. While in Kaleva, don’t miss the Kaleva Art Gallery featuring the creative work of local artisans.
